Blogger's Quilt Festival - Sunshine

After heavy consideration I decided to participate Blogger's Quilt Festival with my baby quilt "Sunshine". I sewed it for my little niece who is about to have her second birthday in November. Last fall and winter I had looked and looked for a suitable pattern for the quilt for a long time. Then I saw a TQS (The Quilt Show) episode with the two sisters Barbara Persing and Mary Hoover showing their stratavarious technique - and I was hooked.

I started with pink fabrics, made some strata - and discovered that another colour was needed to brighten up the color scheme.

I went to my stash and came up with yellow-orange - had to order some more fabrics to get enough variation. More strata was sewn, cut to squares, squares cut to triangles. Finally I had enough material to start to plan the layout.

It was fun to see the 3D effect form as triangles ware laid out to small and big squares. By moving a single small square would turn the 3D totally different. An finally they all were in the position I wanted them to be.

For the backing I decided to use the rest of the fabrics.

When putting the layers together I used Sarah Schambers marvellous basting technique.

I free-motion quilted the quilt with large hearts - and finally the project was finished!

I've followed the Blogger's quilt Festival through all the previous rounds, it's a growing effort for its' organiser Amy. It's a fun way of seeing lots of beautiful quilts from less "professional" quilt show goers, so thank you for it!

  4. it is always nice to look at all the entries isn't it. I wish I could go to the show in Houston coming up but seeing as I can't I can sit at my computer and look at all these quilts instead.
